The lighting in the portrait works well with having the background darker bring him out (nice job not blowing out that white pillar/shelf beside him). I think the images of his work? designs? pots? could be toned to be a little more saturated/contrasty to make them pop, they look a little flat on my screen.
Those designs are really pretty - if you lighted them with an umbrella or something to make them pop out more, it would really accentuate the intricacies.
